Fighting Arts, or to be more specific Martial Arts, were developed over the ages to serve as a means of self-protection. Today however, it is rare to find true self-protection arts being taught. In most schools of martial arts only a fighting sport is being taught. While this organization is not against martial sports, it is sad that martial sports have almost completely replaced the older self-protection arts. In most cases the general public and students do not know the differences between a true fighting art of self-protection and a martial sport that teaches only tournament techniques.
Old training methods, oral traditions, traditional family and village kata and other aspects of the old traditional self-protection arts are being lost; even in their countries of origin these old arts are not being preserved. Modern karate tournament rules are forcing participants to all learn the same kata for the sake of uniform competition and the ease of judging. Often older versions of a particular kata are not allowed in competition. Many of these fine old forms are being lost.
The Kokusai Kobujutsu Hozon Domei is being formed to serve as an educational organization that will try and preserve the older self-protection arts. This organization is open to all martial artists regardless of style, the type of art, or the rank of the martial artist.
This organization will also recognize those martial artists who have, with considerable hard work and thought, created their own style or system. Someone created all systems and styles; every old style at one time was a new style.
